EMU softball player Aislinn Lucas named second-team all-state

emu-sports-newemu softball player Aislinn Lucas (Grottoes, Va./Fort Defiance) has earned one more award, being named All-State Second Team by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).  EMU’s sophomore took one of just six outfield spots on the all-state teams.

Lucas had a breakout year this spring for the Royals, raising her batting average 96 points from her freshman year.  She finished with a .407 batting clip, including five multi-hit games over EMU’s final seven contests.  She had three or more hits four times this year and notched her first career four-hit game in a win over Sweet Briar on April 19.

On the strength of 18 walks against just eight strikeouts, Lucas had team highs with a .510 on-base percentage and .605 slugging percentage.  She was tied for second on the team with three homeruns and added 17 runs, 15 RBIs and seven doubles.

This caps a fantastic season for Lucas, who was also named All-ODAC First Team and All-Atlantic Region Second Team.

With Lucas’ All-State award, eastern mennonite is one of just five Old Dominion Athletic Conference schools honored by VaSID.  ODAC champion Virginia Wesleyan landed Tori Higginbotham as Player of the Year and Kristina Karagiorgis as Pitcher of the Year.  Keith Parr of Christopher Newport was Coach of the Year, while Randolph’s Hunter Glavé and Averett’s Jessica Long were the Co-Rookies of the Year.

The Royals finished 18-18-1 this spring, their 10th straight season with a record of .500 or better.
