Emory & Henry made the plays down the stretch Saturday afternoon and defeated the Bridgewater College Eagles, 57-48, in ODAC basketball action.

Turnovers and poor shooting plagued both teams in the first half.

The teams combined for 29 turnovers, 15 by E&H, and both squads shot less than 35 percent from the floor.

Kenneth Waugh came off the bench and hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points to pace the Eagles to a two-point lead at the half.

A layup by Waugh with 32 seconds left in the half gave the Eagles a five point lead, 21-16, but Malcolm Green swished a 3-pointer at the buzzer to pull E&H to within two, 21-19, at the half.

The Wasps used a 7-1 spurt in the second half to open up a 36-30 lead and the Eagles were playing uphill the rest of the way,

The Eagles closed to within one 40-39 with four points from Tavis Stapleton. Stapleton hit two free throws and then added a steal and a breakaway dunk to pull Bridgewater to within one with 7:45 left in the game.

The Wasps failed to score from the field over the next three-plus minutes, but they hit four foul shots to expand their lead to five, 44-39.

Aaron Adams hit 1-of-2 at the line and Stapleton made two free throws to close the gap to two, 44-42, with 3:36 left.

Damian Edwards then knocked down a big three-pointer from the left wing go give the Wasps a 47-42 advantage.

The Eagles closed to within four, 49-45, on a layup by Cody Griffith with 1:51 left, but the Wasps hit their free throws down the stretch to finish off the 57-48 victory.

Griffith led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points. Waugh finished with 11 and Stapleton scored 10. Armando Murrell led three Wasps in double digits with a game-high 13 points.

Bridgewater is now 5-14 overall and 2-8 in the ODAC. The Wasps are 9-10, 3-8 in the ODAC.

The Eagles are back in action Wednesday night when they travel to Hampden-Sydney.
