Donald Trump, on Jan. 6, complains about Biden making transition ‘difficult’

Donald Trump, complaining about Joe Biden making the transition “as difficult as possible,” four years to the day of the Jan. 6 insurrection that he had hoped would overturn the 2020 election, is officially the stupidest man on the face of the earth.

“Biden is doing everything possible to make the TRANSITION as difficult as as possible, from Lawfare such as has never been seen before, to costly and ridiculous Executive Orders on the Green New Scam and other money wasting Hoaxes. Fear not, these ‘Orders’ will all be terminated shortly, and we will become a Nation of Common Sense and Strength. MAGA!!!” the Idiot-in-Chief posted to his worthless social media site on Monday.

Monday, as in, Monday, Jan. 6, 2025.

Congress has already voted today, without controversy, to certify his 1.6-point election win over Kamala Harris from two months ago.

Harris, in fact, as vice president, oversaw the vote, much as Trump’s first vice president, Mike Pence, was eventually able to do four years ago, on Jan. 6, 2021.

But back on Jan. 6, 2021, before Pence was able to certify the vote, Trump supporters, chanting “Hang Mike Pence,” had erected a gallows on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol, having been egged on by Trump, who had tried and failed to pressure Pence into holding up the certification of Biden’s 4.5-point victory, claiming, as he continues to do today, that the election had been “stolen.”

Weeks of lies to that effect from Trump were the prelude to thousands of his supporters, in a coordinated action, overrunning the U.S. Capitol as Congress began to meet to certify the 2020 election.

The insurrection led to five deaths in the immediate aftermath, and 174 injuries to police officers who tried to protect the Capitol, and four officers would die by suicide within months of the coup attempt.

And that’s all on top of the Trump administration’s steadfast refusal in the two months between the 2020 election and Biden’s inauguration to cooperate with the incoming Biden team, as the COVID pandemic raged, and Trump had begun a dramatic withdrawal of U.S. troops from a 20-year-long war in Afghanistan.

This is the guy who complained about the transition.

Meanwhile, not only did we not see thousands of Democrats overrun the Capitol to try to overturn the 2024 election, there wasn’t even as much as a single protest lodged by a Democratic lawmaker as the votes from the 2024 election were being counted today.

You may remember, 147 congressional Republicans, including our congressman in the Sixth District, Ben Cline, who was re-elected to another term in November, voted against certifying the 2020 election, and those votes were cast after Donald Trump supporters had rampaged for hours throughout the Capitol.

We haven’t heard, at this writing, from Cline, about the certification of the 2024 election.

We have heard from three Virginia Democrats – Sen. Tim Kaine and Reps. Bobby Scott and Eugene Vindman.

This is Kaine’s statement on today’s certification:

“My profound thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris. She is a history-making Vice President and Presidential candidate. She played an important role in an administration that produced long lasting economic, social, and diplomatic accomplishments.

“She conceded when she lost. She did not lie about the result. She did not try to strong-arm election officials into fraudulently reporting fake results. She did not file baseless lawsuits challenging the outcome. She did not inspire a violent attack on the Capitol to interrupt the peaceful transfer of power — instead she presided gracefully over the election certification. She did not skip town because she was too ashamed to face people after her loss. She has never encouraged violence against political opponents. She is what democracy looks like.”

Next, Scott, who represents the Third District in Virginia in the U.S. House:

“Today’s orderly proceedings to certify the 2024 presidential election, overseen by Vice President Kamala Harris, stands in stark contrast to the violent insurrection we all witnessed four years ago. On Jan. 6, 2021, a violent mob attacked the U.S. Capitol and tried to overthrow the results of a free and fair election.

“Many people, including President-elect Trump, have attempted to downplay, dismiss, deny and outright lie about what happened that day. Attempts to rewrite history will fail, just as they failed to overturn the election results four years ago.

“Today, as Members of Congress fulfilled our constitutional duty, we remember the insurrection and those who were injured and those who lost their lives, and we continue the work to protect our democracy from those who seek to undermine or end it. And the public should recognize those who lie and attempt to rewrite history for partisan political gain as a real threat to our enduring democracy.”

And finally, Vindman, a freshman congressman, elected in November in the Seventh District to a seat held for three terms by Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat who is running for governor in the 2025 election cycle:

“Today, we upheld democracy, respected the will of the people, and ensured a peaceful transfer of power. This should always be the standard for elections in the United States and around the world. I am proud to be part of the group of responsible legislators who abide by our constitutional obligations and take seriously the peaceful transfer of power. As a member of Congress, I will always stand by these values and against attacks on our Constitution and democratic institutions.

“Unfortunately, Jan. 6 will forever be remembered as the day our democracy came under attack, and I condemn in the strongest terms those who desecrated the Capitol grounds and the people who incited them on this day in 2020. Yet, thanks to the courage of the U.S. Capitol Police, congressmen and senators who did not fold to the pressures of a violent mob, our democratic institutions prevailed.

“With the 2024 election results peacefully certified, I look forward to getting to work championing bipartisan solutions to reduce costs, protect our national security, and help every family achieve the American Dream.”
