DNC targets Cantor, other GOP leaders on stimulus opposition

The Democratic National Committee launched a new offensive against Republican Congressional Leaders on Wednesday over the economy and the success of the Recovery Act.
The multi-pronged effort takes U.S. Sens. Mitch McConnell (Kent.) and Jon Kyl (Ariz.) and U.S. Reps. John Boehner (Ohio), Eric Cantor (Va.) and Mike Pence (Ind.) to task for supporting the disastrous economic policies over the past eight years that sank our economy, opposing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) that rescued it from catastrophe and now misleading the public about its success in creating and saving jobs and beginning to turn our economic fortunes around.

The effort includes a television ad that will air nationally on cable and in the District of Columbia, local radio ads and press events.

“Republicans supported the policies that sank our economy into the worst recession in nearly a century and have refused to work with President Obama to turn things around,” said DNC communications director Brad Woodhouse. “They followed Rush Limbaugh and played politics with the Recovery Act – and now that it is showing signs of progress – they are distorting the truth about its success so no one will notice that they were the ones who got it wrong before and who are getting it wrong now. In each of these states there are real projects, providing and saving real jobs and laying a foundation for long-term economic growth. The Republican leadership may not want to admit the truth because it will expose their own mistakes and hypocrisy, but we’re not going to hesitate setting the record straight.”
