This is surely good news for Roger Goodell: that he has beleaguered Washington owner Daniel Snyder giving him a vote of confidence.
“Roger Goodell has always had the best interests of football at heart, both on and off the field,” Snyder said in a statement released by the NFL team Saturday morning in reference to the firestorm created by Goodell’s handling of the investigation into former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice’s assault of his now-wife, Janay.
Goodell has been the subject of calls from a number of critics inside and outside of the sports world to resign or be fired for the bungled investigation.
But Snyder, in the middle of his own firestorm over his team’s name, has his back.
“We are fortunate to have him as our Commissioner,” Snyder said of Goodell “The entire Washington Redskins organization strongly endorses his efforts to eradicate domestic abuse and the independent investigation into the Ray Rice assault.”
