What: The Fellowship of Warmth, a night of FREE soup, socializing and entertainment with the purpose of gathering coats and winter gear for those in need. Bring gear to drop off and stay for soup; collect gear for yourself or anyone you know who is in need. And enjoy a bowl of hot soup free of charge.
When: Tues, Jan. 21, 4-7 p.m.
Where: AVA Restaurant and Wine Bar, 103 West Beverley Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401
Who: Hosted by Embark Staunton, a Faith-in-Action Community in Staunton. The (h)OUR Economy, a project of the Staunton Creative Community Fund (SCCF), is the Shenandoah Valley’s Timebank and Alternative Economy Community. Transition Staunton Augusta is a group dedicated to relocalizing our economy, food system, and as much manufacturing as we can while addressing the impacts of fossil fuels and climate change. AVA Restaurant and Wine Bar is a Staunton eatery and wine bar offering traditional comfort foods along with exotic teas, an award-winning wine menu and some vegetarian and vegan menu options.
Why: With winter storms bringing unseasonably cold nights, many people find themselves on the streets exposed to dangerous levels of cold. Coats and soup will help. People coming in from the cold also need warm hearts and community too. So we’ll invite attendees to add a wish to our wishing tree, listen to some live acoustic tunes, mingle and enjoy the benefits of the sharing economy both as givers and receivers. And we’ll help the community reduce and reuse, thereby lowering our impact on the landfill and our overall carbon footprint all while living in an alternative economy where money is not the only or preferred currency — but encounter with each other is!
