A woman who pleaded guilty in the death of an acquaintance in the 11th Street Parking Garage at the University of Virginia was sentenced today in Charlottesville Circuit Court.
Tabitha Head, of Lebanon, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the Sept. 7, 2023, voluntary manslaughter of Brian Patrick Kiser, also of Lebanon.
Four years were suspended by Judge Claude V. Worrell, leaving an active sentence of six years. Head was also placed on three years of supervised probation and 10 years of good behavior.
According to court records, Head and Kiser were “well acquainted” and traveled together to the University of Virginia Medical Center on Sept. 7.
UVA Police reported that officers responded to a call for service at 4:15 p.m. The victim was found with a puncture wound to his torso. An edged weapon was found at the scene. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful.
Head was taken into custody after the incident.
Head pleaded guilty to killing Kiser on March 8.
During a victim impact statement in court today, Kiser’s mother, Pauline Salyers testified that “there is no greater grief than that of a mother having to bury her child.”
“Sadly, nothing can bring Brian back, but hopefully Ms. Salyers and her family will over time be able to heal and move forward,” said Joe Platania, Charlottesville Commonwealth’s Attorney, after sentencing.
