The Waynesboro Police Department has charged two Staunton siblings for a brutal attack on a Waynesboro teenager earlier in the week at a city park. Joshua Lee Piner, 26 years old, and his sister, Brooke Sheyane Piner, 18 years old, both face a felony and a misdemeanor charge for the Monday night assault. Two sixteen year old Augusta County boys are also facing charges for their role in the incident as well.
On June 13, an officer responded to the residence of a 19-year-old Waynesboro man because he reported having just been assaulted and robbed at North Park. The victim had several abrasions, contusion and lacerations to his face, arms and torso. The victim told the officer that he and Brooke Piner are acquaintances. He said that Brooke sent him a text asking him to meet at the park at 9:00 p.m. The meeting went as scheduled and the two sat at the park’s pavilion.
Shortly after their meeting, the victim reported hearing individuals coming from behind him. He was then assaulted by Joshua Piner and the two juveniles. They punched and kicked him repeatedly, including a severe kick to his head. The three attackers also demanded the victim’s wallet which he surrendered. The assault ended when the attackers believed they saw police nearby. All three and Brooke left the victim at the park and fled in a vehicle. The victim indicated that he believes Brooke set him up to be attacked and that one of the juveniles said he was Brooke’s boyfriend.
The victim was taken to Augusta Health then was transferred to UVA Medical Center due to the head injury. He has since been released.
Both Piner siblings surrendered themselves at the Police Department on June 17 on two charges each – Assault by Mob and Strong Armed Robbery.
They are being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
