The doors to the Blue Ridge Children’s Museum in Waynesboro could be open soon, according to Karen Orlando, founder and board president.

Orlando told AFP this week she is aiming to get the certificate of occupancy on July 1.

The museum, located at 201 Short Street, will feature rotating exhibits that will be open to families.

The goal is to open the front half of the building to the public this summer.

Orlando told AFP that she hopes opening the building and completing phase one will provide the spark and funds needed to complete the interior renovations.

“I’m hoping that once people get in there and see what it is, they’re going to want more, and then we’ll be able to pretty quickly bust out that back half [of the building],” Orlando said in a previous interview with AFP.

An outdoor natural playground is already being used on a regular basis. The playground is open to the public from from dawn to dusk and includes building logs, a rock slide, a flower garden, community mural, outdoor kitchen and more.
