Binghamton Mets top Richmond Flying Squirrels, 6-1

richmond-squirrelsThe Binghamton Mets (40-31) built an early lead and never looked back, dumping the Richmond Flying Squirrels (39-30), 6-1, on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium.  With the win the B-Mets also grabbed the three-game series.

Kevin Plawecki ignited a disastrous second inning for Jack Snodgrass with a lead-off single.  Dustin Lawley followed with a single before Snodgrass walked Travis Taijeron to load the bases with nobody out.  Rylan Sandoval followed and rifled a two-run double through the right-center field alley.  Snodgrass struck out his mound-counterpart, Greg Peavey, but then conceded back-to-back singles to Kyle Johnson and Brian Burgamy.  Johnson’s single brought in two more runs, while Burgamy’s plated the fifth run of the inning and knocked Snodgrass out of the ballgame.

Snodgrass (7-1) suffered his first defeat in his shortest outing of the year.  He lasted just 1 1/3 innings and surrendered five earned runs on five hits.  He walked two and struck out one.

Peavey worked through three scoreless innings before the Squirrels struck for their first run in the fourth.  With one out, Myles Schroder cranked a triple through the alley in right-center field.  Ryan Lollis followed and brought him in with a groundout.

The B-Mets got the run back in the fifth inning when they strung together four consecutive hits against right-hander Edwin Quirarte.  Taijeron knocked in Plawecki with the fourth of those hits – a single – to make it 6-1 Binghamton.  Quirarte worked three innings of relief behind Snodgrass and allowed just the lone run.

Peavey (5-1) faced no additional adversity, coasting to the win over eight innings.  He permitted just the lone run on five hits, walked one and struck out five.

Right-hander Cody Satterwhite then finished the ballgame, working a perfect ninth inning.

The finale of the three-game series is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium.  Richmond RHP Kyle Crick (4-2, 3.89) will make the start against Binghamton RHP Tyler Pill (4-5, 4.65).  The Flying Squirrels Pregame Warmupbegins at 6:05 p.m. on Sports Radio 910 and SportsRadio910.com.
