Bike Virginia, a multi-day biking event in its 23rd year, will be bringing approximately 2,000 bicycle riders to Staunton this week for a three-day ride.

Cyclists will arrive and check in on Friday, June 25th, and will depart Monday, June 28th. Around 1,300 bicyclists will be staying in local hotels, motels and B&Bs. Seven hundred or so cyclists will camp in a tent city at Shelburne Middle School.

The riders will depart Staunton for Harrisonburg on Monday morning, June 28th. They will return to Staunton on Wednesday, June 30th for a finish line celebration at The Villages of Staunton. According to Bike Virginia, this event has a $3.1 million economic impact in host towns through hotel rooms, meals and other purchases.

Riders will be traveling the roads of Staunton and Augusta County, cycling approximately 50 miles each day.

Local restaurants and businesses are sure to see increased traffic as bicyclists make their way into town during their free time to shop and dine.

There are planned activities in Gypsy Hill Park for the cyclists on Friday evening, June 25th, including a pool party, movie and complimentary admission to the Staunton Braves game. The Frontier Culture Museum is hosting a Craft Beer Festival for the cyclists (general public also welcome) on Saturday afternoon and evening, June 26th. Downtown Staunton invites Bike Virginia to a Jazz Festival (general public also welcome) and extended store hours on Sunday evening, June 27th.

BikeWalk Virginia, the organizer of Bike Virginia, is committed to building communities of cyclists and walkers across the state, with an emphasis on safety.

More information about this event can be found on Bike Virginia’s website www.bikevirginia.org.
