BC recognizes philosophy, religion students

Bridgewater College seniors Rebekah L. Miller and Blake Strother and junior Jesse Winter were recognized by the Department of Philosophy and Religion for academic excellence at the annual awards convocation on May 1.

Miller was presented the Outstanding Senior Award in Philosophy for making the greatest contributions in philosophy courses. She received a certificate and a Kindle e-reader with The Complete Works of Plato and Aristotle.

Miller, a philosophy and religion major, is the daughter of Robbie and Terri Miller of Bridgewater, Va. She completed an honors project, “The Importance of Logic as a General Education Requirement.”

Strother received the Outstanding Senior Award in Religion for making the greatest contributions in biblical, religion and theology courses. He received a certificate and a copy of the United Bible Society’s Greek New Testament (fourth revised edition: a reader’s edition) edited by Barbara Aland, et al. and Zeba A. Crook’s Parallel Gospels: A Synopsis of Early Christian Writing.

Strother, a philosophy and religion major, is the son of Garnett and Sherry Strother of Harrisonburg, Va. He completed his studies at the end of Interterm in January 2012. He completed an honors project, “Postmodernism Actualized in the Church.”

Winter was selected as the winner of The Ruth and Steve Watson Philosophy Scholarship Award. The award, presented to a rising junior or senior, rewards and encourages past and future contributions to philosophical inquiry. The scholarship is for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Winter, a junior English and philosophy and religion double major, is the son of Roy and Karen Winter of New Windsor, Md.
