richmond flying squirrelsThe Bowie Baysox (40-52) sped past the Flying Squirrels (37-55), 6-2, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium.

Bowie scored three runs in the first inning and pounded out 14 hits in the contest. Richmond struggled to solve Bowie’s RHP David Hess as he allowed just one run, on one hit over six innings to earn the win. Tyler Beede suffered the loss for Richmond.

The Baysox handed starting pitcher David Hess a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Former Flying Squirrel infielder Sharlon Schoop walked with one out to start the run-scoring frame. Bowie then gathered four consecutive base hits to plate two and load the bases. Garabez Rosa delivered a sacrifice fly to right field for the third and final run of the inning. Squirrels starter Tyler Beede used 23 pitches in the first.

Bowie’s Hess cruised through the early innings while pitching with the lead. He stuck out a pair of batters in the first and faced just one over the minimum through the first four innings. Meanwhile, the Baysox offense continued to surge, with a run in the second and two more in fourth. Chance Sisco made it 4-0 with his second hit of the game in the second inning. Sisco had three hits in the contest and seven hits in seven consecutive at bats going back to Friday night.

A pair of errors in the fourth indirectly led to two more Bowie runs and a 6-0 lead. Drew Dosch opened the inning with a single and was bunted up to second base. Dosch then scored on a ground ball base hit to right field that was bobbled by Hunter Cole. Sisco followed with a double and Joey Terdoslavich a bouncing ground ball to first, that was knocked down but still allowed the final Bowie run to score.

Richmond managed to get on the board against Hess with a run in the fifth. Ryder Jones worked a walk and advanced to second on the first Squirrels hit of the day. Darren Ford then smacked a hard grounder to third that bounced over the defender’s glove, allowing Jones to score from second for a 6-1 contest. Hess finished the fifth and sixth and was removed after 86 pitches. Hess (4-9) earned the win and snapped his five-game losing streak in the process.

Beede hurled 77 pitches through the first five innings and returned to start the sixth. A pair of base hits to begin the inning forced Beede from the game in favor of reliever Jose Casilla. Casilla walked Sisco to load the bases with one out, then picked up a double play to end the inning. The Squirrels turned four double plays in the defeat.

Casilla pitched two scoreless innings In relief and Chase Johnson returned from the disabled list and pitched the eighth.

The Squirrels pushed in a run in the ninth to make it a 6-2 contest. Chris Shaw doubled and Hunter Cole brought him in with a single. Reliever Bobby Bundy struck out Ryder Jones and Carlos Moncrief to end the game.
