A one-out J.J. Hardy RBI single in the top of the ninth broke a 9-9 tie, and the Orioles added insurance runs on a two-run double by Ryan Flaherty and an RBI single by Manny Machado.

Zach Britton retired Toronto in order, in effect, in the ninth, getting Danny Valencia to ground into a game-ending double play after walking Russell Martin with one out.

Neither O’s starter Chris Tillman or Jays starter Scott Copeland got out of the second inning. Copeland was tagged for seven runs on eight hits in an inning and a third, and Tillman, pitching the second with a 7-0 lead, was knocked out after an inning and two-thirds, giving up six runs on six hits.

Darren O’Day (4-0), the sixth of seven Baltimore pitchers used on the day, got the win in relief.

Brett Cecil (1-4), the seventh of eight Toronto pitchers used Sunday, was saddled with the loss.
