Membership to the Augusta County Solar Co-op is closing on Sept. 30. The 86-member group is looking to add new members before the Sept. 30 deadline. Already, nearly a dozen people have signed contracts to go solar. System installations began earlier this month.
The group is open to businesses and homeowners that are interested in going solar as a group and saving money. The group selected Sigora Solar to install solar on members’ homes. Climate Action Alliance of the Valley and VA SUN are sponsoring the co-op.
Residents in and around Augusta County interested in joining the co-op can sign up at the co-op website.
“We’ve seen a tremendous amount of interest from Augusta community members banding together to change their energy futures and become more energy independent,” said Jon Proffit, Sigora Solar Sales Analyst. “Sigora is thrilled to be participating in this great solar co-op and proud to see the results in our own backyard.”
“If you’ve ever thought about going solar, now is a great opportunity to do so,” said Climate Action Alliance of the Valley member Sandy Greene. “The co-op works with its members every step of the way so they are comfortable with the process.”
VA SUN is a nonprofit that helps make solar more affordable and accessible. It has worked with almost a dozen solar co-ops in Virginia. It helped 144 homes go solar, saving Virginia residents $396,000 in just the past year.
Joining the co-op is not a commitment to purchase panels. Co-op members will have the option to purchase panels based upon the installer’s offer individually. By going solar as a group and choosing a single installer, each participant generally saves up to 20% off the cost of their system.
