Augusta County residents can recycle their Christmas trees at convenience centers in Churchville, Verona, Crimora, Sherando and Mount Sidney through Saturday, Jan. 11.

The Regional Landfill will accept trees anytime during normal operating hours.

The landfill is open from 8 a.m. until 4:15 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Recycled Christmas trees are used in various ways by the Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Parks Service. Examples of use include helping to prevent erosion or create fish habitats.

If they are not needed, trees are shredded for mulch. You can feel good about giving a new purpose to your tree after the holidays.

For hours and more information about the landfill, visit Water, Trash, and Recycling or the Augusta Water website.
