Augusta Free Press Publishing is helping to jumpstart a new venture called Create Waynesboro that we hope can lay the foundation for creative-class economy in Waynesboro.
Create Waynesboro had its first meeting on April 27 at Stone Soup Books and Cafe in Downtown Waynesboro to begin a four-month discussion of the book The Rise of the Creative Class by author and researcher Richard Florida.
Attendees included representatives of the Waynesboro Cultural Commission, the Waynesboro Economic Development Authority, Waynesboro Downtown Development Inc., the Wayne Theatre Alliance and the Artisans Center of Virginia.
The group’s next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26, at 7 p.m. at Stone Soup Books, 908 W. Main St., Waynesboro.
The meeting will focus on Part 1 of Florida’s book on the creative-class economy, which includes the arts, the design industry, architecture and engineering and the technology sector.
The meeting is open to the public. Copies of the book are available at Stone Soup Books.
The meeting will also include discussion of a proposal generated at the first meeting of Create Waynesboro to organize and develop a creative-class networking series to give members of the creative-class economy an outlet for getting to know each other better.
