Albemarle County: Suspect charged in overnight shooting that injured woman

Updated Thursday, 7 p.m. The Albemarle County Police Department has released the name of the suspect arrested in connection to the shooting on Mallside Forest Court overnight.

Mark A. Murphy Jr., 40, of Charlottesville, has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding and two related firearms charges.

Murphy is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

No additional information was provided on the condition of the woman victim who was reportedly in critical condition at UVA Health following the shooting.


Albemarle County Police have a heavy presence on Mallside Forest Court after a female was shot early Thursday morning.

According to the ACPD, officers responded to reports of a shooting at 3:30 a.m. Upon arrival, a woman was found with injuries from a gunshot wound. She was transferred to UVA Health in critical condition.

A suspect was detained approximately 45 minutes later. Police believe the shooting was domestic in nature.

No names have been released at this time.

An investigation is under way.
