The VDOT contractor rehabbing the Red Hill Road bridge over the North Fork Hardware River in Albemarle County reopened the structure more than two weeks ahead of schedule.

The structure, originally built in 1959, is located north of the Town of Scottsville on Route 708 (Red Hill Road) at the intersection of Route 20 (Scottsville Road).

During construction, crews installed a temporary traffic signal to facilitate one-lane traffic for crews to safely work on the $5.3 million rehabilitation project.

Crews have now removed the temporary signals, but drivers should remain cautious and watch for intermittent construction over the next week as the contractor completes remaining work on the project.

The latest available data reports about 9,000 vehicles use Scottsville Road in that area daily.

More information about this project can be found on VDOT’s website at Route 708 bridge over North Fork Hardware River, Albemarle County | Virginia Department of Transportation.
