#4 Florida State 69, #1 UVA 59

First half

  • Florida State leads 7-6 at the 15:45 media timeout. Nice start for De’Andre Hunter: a dribble-drive layup and a 12-foot jumper.
  • Both teams are 2-of-2 on shots at the rim.
  • Florida State leads 13-10 at the 11:50 media timeout, FSU’s length is bothering UVA. Kyle Guy is 0-of-1, an ugly miss, and Mamadi Diakite has missed two at the rim, bothered by shot blockers.
  • 7-0 FSU run, ‘Noles lead 20-10, 10:15/1st. Florida State is 8-of-12 from the floor.
  • 6-0 UVA run, FSU leads 20-16, 7:19/1st. ‘Noles haven’t scored for 3:00.
  • FSU has led pretty much all the way. ‘Noles ahead 29-24 at the 2:31 mark.
  • Half: FSU 35, UVA 31. ‘Hoos shoot 42.9 percent (12-of-28). ‘Noles shoot 54.5 (12-of-22). Kyle Guy finally got going, and has 11 points, on 3-of-6 shooting.
  • Ty Jerome hasn’t scored, is 0-of-5 from the floor, and has two assists and one turnover, in 17 minutes. Something seems off with him. He’s not been able to get in the lane to create.

Second half

  • Virginia has closed to within 42-41, after FSU had taken a 40-33 lead early in the half. ‘Hoos are 3-of-5 from the floor, with a three, and 3-of-3 at the line.
  • Ty Jerome three brings us back to a one-point game, 49-48 FSU lead, 11:46/2nd. Jerome’s first make today.
  • 11-1 FSU run, ‘Noles lead 60-49, 7:32 left. Tony Bennett timeout. It’s one thing to lose, another to be defeated. Virginia is getting defeated tonight. FSU is shooting 59 percent from the floor.
  • Too little, too late: Ty Jerome three gets UVA back to down 64-56, 2:23 to go. Meh.
  • Final: FSU 69, UVA 59
