2014 World Series Trophy coming to Richmond

richmond-squirrelsThe Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, confirmed that the 2014 World Series Trophy will be on display at The Diamond for the Tuesday, July 21 game against Akron.

The trophy will be on display throughout the game on the concourse and fans will have an opportunity to take pictures with the coveted prize.  July 21st also coincides with the Squirrels Joe Panik “Panik Button” giveaway (first 1,500 fans). The Panik Button is one of the most unique giveaways of the year and features the likeness and actual voice of former Squirrel and current Giants second baseman Joe Panik.

The arrival of the 2015 World Series Trophy marks the third such occasion since the Squirrels inception in 2010. The Giants also sent the 2010 & 2012 trophies to the RVA. “This is such an honor for our organization, the fans and the community to once again have the World Series Trophy here in Richmond,” said Squirrels VP & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell, “The Giants have truly been a pillar of success and the trophy’s arrival is an exclusive promotion other minor league affiliates can’t match.”

Five World Series Trophy Funn Facts:

1)     The 2015 World Series Trophy will fly to Richmond with its own seat
2)     Prior to 1967 there was no official trophy awarded to the World Series winner.
3)     The current trophy was a redesign for the 2000 World Series and is made by Tiffany & CO.
4)     The trophy weighs about 30 pounds and is made of sterling silver.
5)     The words “Presented by the Commissioner of Baseball” along with the commissioner’s signature are engraved on the base.

Gates will open on Tuesday, July 21st at 6:00 PM. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM. The Flying Squirrels return to RVA from a three-city, 10 day road trip onJune 9th,, and kick off the Summer of Funn with the following promotional schedule:

  • Tuesday, June 9th – Kid’s Thermos Giveaway presented by Martin’s (first 1,500 fans 14 & under).
  • Wednesday, June 10th – Middle Child Appreciation Night.
  • Thursday, June 11th – In-Your-Face Fireworks and Tribute to Meat Night presented by Your Local Ford Dealers.
  • Friday, June 12th -Free Shirt Friday and Happy Hour presented by Village Bank (1,000 fans 15 & up). Scout Night Sleepover.
  • Saturday, June 13th – In-Your-Face Fireworks, Swim Team Night and Shark Jersey Auction presented by TowneBank Richmond.
  • Sunday, June 14th – Kid’s Club Sunday Shovel & Pail Giveaway (first 1,500 14 & under)  presented by Coca-Cola.
