Christmas was anything but merry for an Albemarle County man who was shot in the hand last night. A Charlottesville man is now in custody for the incident in the 1700 block of Slate Mill Branch Road.
Roland Keith Shifflett, 46, has been charged with malicious wounding. He is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
According to police, the shooting happened at approximately 11:15 p.m. The adult male victim was treated at the scene and transported to UVA Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
During the investigation, officers determined that the suspect and victim knew one another, and the incident was not random.
This isn’t the first firearms charge that Shifflett has faced. In 2020, he was charged with pointing/brandishing a firearm in Albemarle General District Court. Online court records indicate the misdemeanor charge was later dropped.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Albemarle County Police Department at (434) 872-4509. For those who wish to remain anonymous, you may contact Crime Stoppers at (434) 977-4000.
