A Maryland man has been arrested for rape after a months-long investigation stemming from a dating app meetup gone wrong.
According to the Albemarle County Police Department, Shane R. Driscoll, 32, of Baltimore, travelled to the Charlottesville area in September to meet the victim. He was using the alias of “Wayne Washington” on the app, according to police.
Driscoll was indicted by an Albemarle County grand jury on Dec. 1 on one felony charge. He was taken into custody last week on two felony charges related to the investigation.
The three felonies include:
- Rape (§18.2-61)
- Abduction with the intent to defile (§18.2-48)
- Communicating a threat in writing (§18.2-60(a)(1))
Driscoll is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
Anyone with information relevant to this incident or who may have encountered Driscoll on a dating app is encouraged to contact the Albemarle County Police Department’s criminal investigations division at (434) 296-5807.
