Applications being accepted for open U.S. Attorney position in Western Virginia

Chris Graham

congressU.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine are now accepting applications for the position of U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia to fill the seat left vacant by Timothy Heaphy, who left office in December after five years of distinguished service.

“The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia plays an integral role in protecting a geographically diverse region on a wide range of issues – from human trafficking, narcotics, and gang violence to white collar crime and public corruption,” the Senators said. “The geographic footprint of the Western District covers approximately two-thirds of the Commonwealth, with courts in Abingdon, Big Stone Gap, Charlottesville, Danville, Harrisonburg, Lynchburg, and Roanoke. We look forward to beginning this process and finding the right person for the job.”

Warner and Kaine will recommend qualified candidates to the White House, which will then nominate an individual to be considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee. The nomination is subject to confirmation by the full Senate.

Interested applicants should visit Senator Warner’s website for application instructions. The application period will close Friday, February 6, 2015. If you have questions about the application, please contact [email protected] or  [email protected].
