Harrisonburg, Va., artist Paul Somers will exhibit digital photographs in the Cleo Driver Miller Art Gallery at Bridgewater College Aug. 25 – Sept. 17.
Somers will present an artist’s talk at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, in the Boitnott Room. An artist’s reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Miller Gallery. The talk, reception and exhibition are open to the public at no charge.
In the exhibition, “Old Broken Men,” Somers illustrates and explores the skateboard culture as it thrives within the individual beyond childhood and long into adulthood.
The photographs in the exhibition document the lives of adult skateboarders who have received an education, developed a career and started a family, yet identify themselves as skateboarders and continue pursuing the sport.
His work has been exhibited at Larkin Arts and A.E. Conner Studio, both in Harrisonburg, Va.
Somers earned a B.A. degree in English from James Madison University and an M.A. in English from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
The Miller Gallery is located on the second floor of the Alexander Mack Memorial Library. The Gallery is open 8 a.m. to midnight Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 to 11 p.m. Sunday.
Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to approximately 1,800 undergraduate students.
