Hypocrisy is defined by The Cambridge English Dictionary as:

“A situation in which someone pretends to believe something they do not really believe, or that is the opposite of what they do or say at another time.”

Hypocrisy was on full display last week when President Xi of communist China visited Donald J. Trump (who got to worship another dictator).

Let’s look at the backdrop:

Every member of the House of Representatives is up for re-election this November, and Republicans have nothing to run on.

To win, they’ve resorted to insulting Democratic opposition with the old, tired bugaboo, “Democrats are ALL SOCIALISTS! They’re COMMUNISTS!”

The New York Times, in its coverage of the Republican “Midterm Convention” earlier this month, highlighted how every speaker there claimed, as Rep. Steve Scalise did, that there had been a Bolshevik Revolution in the Democrat (sic) party.

“Stalin. Mao. Castro. Democrats,” the Republican National Committee claimed, “Different leaders, same goal.”

What else do they have? The never-ending war in Iran? The gas and grocery prices? The lack of health care? The rise of measles? The alarming increase in contaminated foods? The plans to wreck our public lands?

Republicans are using this name-calling strategy to denigrate what Democrats work for: respect and equality for all, health care, good education, affordable housing, democracy, liberty, and freedom of the press.

Their messaging could still work, except for one thing:

Donald Trump loves communism, especially the dictators.

When the president of communist China visited him last week, Donald Trump did not allow American journalists in the White House. He did, however, welcome communist China’s state-owned press to cover the events.

This is unamerican.

Trump spent three days wining and dining China’s President Xi while simultaneously releasing a bonkers self-promoting TV ad (paid for with our tax dollars) declaring, “Together we will defeat communism, socialism, and Marxism in America! America will never be a Communist country!”

A better example of hypocrisy doesn’t exist. The president of communist China was honored with a 21-gun salute, a state dinner, and a military fly-over.

The ad ran after members of the U.S. military literally fell to their knees to roll out the red carpet for a communist leader.

The ad ran after Donald Trump met Xi’s plane, instead of presenting a dignified greeting at the White House.

An astonishing show of weakness.

The ad ran after he made sure Xi met as many oligarchs as possible.

Trump has showed his devotion to communist leaders before. This behavior is no different than his meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin – also with a red carpet laid by an on-their-knees military – last year in Alaska. This is after he fell in love with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un in his first term.

Trump supports Russia’s war on Ukraine, while making friend and trading partner Canada an adversary.

Trump can’t get enough of communist dictators.

Actions always speak louder than words. “America will never be communist!” just doesn’t cut it when the president has spent his terms in office kowtowing to communist countries.
