Hurt touts vote to restore 40-hour definition of full-time job

Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Va.) released a statement after voting in favor of H.R. 2575, the Save American Workers Act, which would restore the traditional 40-hour definition of “full-time employment” as it relates to the employer mandate in the president’s healthcare law.

“As we have seen time and time again, the mandates in the president’s health care law are directly and negatively impacting working families.  The ‘30-hour rule’ has resulted in fewer jobs and reduced working hours for many Virginians and Americans, putting 2.6 million workers with a median income of under $30,000 at risk for losing their jobs or their working hours.  We have heard from many Fifth District Virginians who have seen their hours cut due to this rule because when hours and wages are cut, families suffer.  I am pleased this important legislation passed the House today, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to ease the pain of the president’s health care law on the American people.”
