Tim Kaine comments on unemployment insurance vote

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine released a statement after a minority of senators blocked a vote on passage of emergency unemployment insurance legislation on Tuesday.

kaine new2“I’m very disappointed that today a minority of Senators blocked a vote on the extension of emergency unemployment benefits for more than one million Americans, including 10,000 Virginians. While our nation’s economic recovery is headed in the right direction, unemployment insurance provides a critical lifeline for American families who are still trying to get back on their feet. Supporting them as they search for work and put food on the table is not only the right thing to do but would also help the economy by creating 200,000 jobs. I urge my colleagues to continue working toward a bipartisan compromise and allow us to help the nation’s most vulnerable by extending long-term unemployment benefits.”
