Old Dominion Historical Fire Society comes to Waynesboro

waynesboro2editsThe Old Dominion Historical Fire Society, Virginia chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Motorized Fire Apparatus, will again display antique fire equipment at Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adults and children alike will marvel at the historic fire equipment assembled for this event and admission is free!

The 2013 statewide “muster” for ODHFS will be the 5th year that the society has displayed antique fire equipment at RidgeviewPark. Antiques will come from across the Commonwealth to participate in this event. According to Paul Lamp, Northern Region director for ODHFS and lead organizer for the event “With each year our statewide muster at Waynesboro gets a greater response. With more than 2 dozen antiques at the park in the last time we mustered here we are planning for at least 40 units this year.”

Fire equipment dating from before the Civil War will be on display. Several of the fire engines may actually pump water from the South River during the day. Members of ODHFS will be on hand to answer questions and provide the public with the opportunity to see “first hand” antique fire equipment and learn the role that such equipment has played in fire service history.

Gates open to the public at 9:00 AM and the event runs until 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 21 at RidgeviewPark (700 South Magnolia Avenue, Waynesboro, VA22980).
