Virginia Living publishes its second annual guide to the Commonwealth’s ‘Bests’

virginia livingVirginia Living’s second annual Best of Virginia issue is now on newsstands. The statewide guide to all that is ‘best’ in Virginia from dining to shopping to doing, Best of Virginia 2013 lists the more than 1,200 winners from Virginia Living’s second annual Best of Virginia Readers’ Survey conducted in January. More than 25,000 votes were cast in 400 categories covering the best in arts, culture and entertainment, living and recreation, shopping and services, and food and drink across the state.

Best of Virginia 2013 is the guide to everything from the best shopping mall in Northern Virginia and the best barbecue restaurant in the Southwest, to the most luxurious hotel in Eastern Virginia, the best hospital in Central Virginia and the best wine trail in the Shenandoah Valley.

Alongside information about our winners in this issue is special editorial coverage focusing on food. We bring you stories about chefs like Travis Brust of the Williamsburg Inn and Cathal Armstrong of Alexandria’s Restaurant Eve, and special events like the Vintage Virginia Wine Festival in Centreville and the Southern Foodways Alliance Summer Symposium in Richmond. We also visit the White Oak Tea Tavern in Troutville and Three Brothers Brewing Co. in Harrisonburg, explore the seven oyster regions of the Chesapeake Bay and bring you recipes from some of Virginia’s most iconic restaurants, including Virginia Diner in Wakefield, the Tides Inn in Irvington and Skyland Resort in Shenandoah National Park.

Also on newsstands: Virginia Living’s June issue. Frites take center stage in our cover story, which highlights the finer side of the fried favorite. Catch up with U.S. women’s soccer star Ali Krieger and Vince Gilligan, the creator of AMC’s “Breaking Bad,” and bike the Commonwealth using our guide to Virginia’s top 10 cycling cities. Rediscover the classic soda fountain with our feature story on Virginia’s best spots for fizzy concoctions, uncover the Old Dominion’s 400 years of ferry service and more.
