Valley businesses team up to showcase gluten-free living

Staunton dietician Anne Buzzelli has noticed lately she is teaching more and more clients how to avoid gluten, a protein found in wheat.  So when she found out there are several local independent businesses featuring gluten-free products, she asked them to join forces to provide some additional ideas for interested individuals.

In December and January Buzzelli will offer two sessions of “Get Out of the Gluten Glut,” an informative and fun seminar that will cover gluten intolerance and Celiac disease, plus how to shop and cook for gluten-free loved ones. Anne is a registered dietician with a nutrition practice called BuzzNutrition.

“I’m so excited not only to be able to provide information to folks wanting to create a gluten-free diet, but to have experts with products on the spot so they can see that it is possible to have tasty alternatives.”

The seminars will be held Tuesday, December 18 and Wednesday, January 9 from 6-8pm at 16 West Beverley Street in Staunton. Cost is $20. A pay-per-view option for participating online will also be available. Sunberry Baking, Fine Flours Bakery and Buttercup Home-Bakery will be on hand with snacks to sample and purchase, as well as Shenandoah Pizza with coupons for other gluten-free products.

The workshops will be hosted in a newly opened space at 16 West Beverley Street that specializes in innovative retail, virtual office and showcase activities for micro businesses without brick and mortar locations. 16 West by Virtually Sisters hosted a series of “pop-up” retail shops in November and December and will be announcing a full calendar of co-working and showcase opportunities in 2013.

Visit www.virtuallysisters.com for more information about renting or sharing the space.
