A 17-year-old boy was arrested Monday in a drive-by shooting incident that injured one person near Albemarle High School in January.
The teen, who has not been named due to his age, is being held at the Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center.
According to the Albemarle County Police Department, the teen has been charged with three felonies:
- use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
- malicious wounding
- shooting within 1,000 feet of a school
On Jan. 16, at approximately 10:23 pm, officers were called to UVA Health for a person who arrived with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
After speaking with witnesses, officers determined the shooting occurred approximately a half an hour earlier while the victim was driving through the area of Hydraulic Road and Lambs Road.
Officers who responded to the scene of the shooting recovered shell casings.
The investigation is ongoing.
