Eddie Dean, who led the Madison County High School football team to 308 wins in his 38 years as the head coach, and later served a term on the Madison County Board of Supervisors, passed away on Monday, at the age of 85.
Dean, a native of Charlottesville and graduate of Lane High School, was an alum of the University of Richmond and earned a master’s in mathematics from JMU.
He was at Madison County High School from 1967-2004, serving as a math teacher, football coach and athletics director.
His 308 wins in football rank fifth all-time in Virginia high school football.
Three of his teams won state titles, and his teams were state runners-up six times.
