Update: Thursday, 6:34 p.m. Statement from University of Virginia spokesperson Bethanie Glover:

“The University is aware of this matter. While the University is prohibited by federal student privacy law from commenting on specific cases, we can confirm that this individual is not currently enrolled at the University. Albemarle County Police are continuing their investigation into this matter, and the University will cooperate fully with that investigation.”

A check of the UVA Football roster on the VirginiaSports.com website does not have a listing for Edrine, who had announced on Jan. 6 that he was returning to UVA for the 2026 season.

First report: Thursday, 6:00 p.m. Albemarle County Police announced the arrest of UVA Football wideout Jahmal Edrine, 22, in connection with a sexual assault reported on Aug. 25, 2025.

Per the report from the ACPD, an Albemarle County grand jury indicted Edrine on rape and abduction charges.

A media release from the department notes that the grand jury issued its indictment on Monday, Feb. 2.

Edrine was taken into custody on Thursday and is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

We’ve reached out to the University of Virginia for confirmation and comment on the arrest.

The UVA Athletics media-relations office referred me to the main University Communications department for more information.

We’re awaiting what they have to tell us.
