It may be damp, breezy and downright chilly throughout much of Virginia for little ghosts and goblins planning to trick-or-treat on Halloween.

AccuWeather’s Paul Pastelok called weather in the East a “trick” not a “treat” – predicting a breezy, cold night in Virginia.

While most of the rain should be out of the area, damp conditions on Thursday will leave roadways wet. RealFeel temperatures are expected to fall as low as 40 degrees during prime trick-or-treat times Friday night.

“It’s a good idea to pack a poncho or umbrella, just in case a few showers pass by,” said Pastelok, a lead long-range expert for AccuWeather.

Wind gusts could get strong enough to blow around decorations and pose the risk of falling branches and tree limbs on Halloween, from the Great Lakes to the Northeast.

Inflatable decorations, open flames, fire pits and bonfires should be used with caution.

If your Halloween festivities continue throughout the weekend with trunk-or-treats and parties, layers and ponchos may be needed for outdoor festivities, Pastelok said.
