UVA Football pretty much held serve in terms of the national rankings in its bye week, bumping up a single spot, to 18, in the AP Top 25.

The coaches – that is, the SIDs who cast the ballots for their coaches – moved the ‘Hoos (5-1, 3-0 ACC) up five spots, to 19.

Weird stuff coming from the ESPN Football Power Index, whose algorithm dropped Virginia two spots, to 38 – and notably, one spot behind Louisville, who lost at home to UVA last week.

The punishment there is, notably, not necessarily a function of NC State, the 1 in Virginia’s 5-1, getting blown out at Notre Dame on Saturday.

NC State held steady at 58 in the FPI this week.

Nor is the new FPI rendering a function of FSU now having lost three straight.

FSU, which lost at home at Pitt yesterday, dropped one spot, to 25.

Pitt’s reward for its road win at FPI 25: moving up three spots, to 45.
