A Virginia woman was killed on Saturday in a fatal crash on Route 15 in Madison County.

Erica L. Collier, 27, of Brightwood, was transported to UVA Health where she later died.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred on Saturday at 6:20 p.m. on S. James Madison Highway, three tenths of a mile north of Route 671.

Collier was traveling north on Route 15 in a Hyundai Elantra when she allegedly abruptly slowed.

Her vehicle was rear-ended by a northbound Camry drive by Matthew Goins, 20, of Gordonsville.  The impact caused her vehicle to cross the center line and collide head on with a Subaru driven by a 16-year-old female from Fairfax.

Goins was charged with following too closely.

He suffered minor injuries in the crash and was treated at the scene. The teen driver, whose name was not released, received minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene.

Both Goins and the 16-year-old driver were wearing seatbelts. Collier was not wearing a seatbelt, according to VSP.

The crash remains under investigation.
