Heavy rain and gusty winds has resulted in more than 100,000 customers without power in Virginia with the largest outages in Northern Virginia, Richmond and Hampton Roads.

Dominion Energy is reporting 91,495 customers without power in Virginia due to downed lines and equipment issues after heavy rain and gusty winds pelted the state on Sunday.

Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative has 12,500 members out of service across its territory.

Crews are working to restore power, but gusty conditions are making restoration efforts more difficult. SVEC reports that contractors have been brought in to provide assistance.

“Damage is widespread and significant,” according to a statement from SVEC.

SVEC said its goal is to provide full restoration to customers by 10 p.m. on Monday. Members should be prepared to be out of service overnight.

SVEC maintains more than 8,000 miles of electric lines in Winchester and the counties of Augusta, Clarke, Frederick, Highland, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Warren.
