Two Roanoke men have been arrested in a multi-year narcotics investigation of a large-scale trafficker after federal search warrants were executed on Tuesday.

The search warrants were executed just after a courier delivered two duffle bags into a Roanoke residence. The courier was being surveilled by law enforcement as they traveled from California to Virginia.

Wendell Antonio Johnson, 53, and John Bauer Glass, 55, were charged federally with possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. Johnson was released in 2020 from federal prison.

The two search warrants were executed in the 2900 block of Yorktown Place SW, and the 2400 block of Massachusetts Ave. NW, both in Roanoke.

Special agents and officers seized approximately eight kilograms of suspected cocaine along with two kilograms of suspected fentanyl. The street value of the drugs is more than $250,000.

The Virginia State Police Star City Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, along with members of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the City of Roanoke Police Department were involved in the search and subsequent arrests.

Johnson and Glass are currently being held at the Roanoke Adult Detention Center without bond on a federal detainer.

Additional charges will be forthcoming after a consultation with the U. S. Attorney’s Office.
