RMH will host the RMH/Bowman/Progressive Agriculture Home and Farm Safety Day on March 10 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Rockingham County Fair Grounds.
“Our goal is to make children and adults more aware of potential hazards they encounter every day, and help them prevent, injury, illness or even death as a result of working on the family farm or around their homes,” said Dr. Steven Phillips, RMH Occupational Health medical director.
The cost of the event is $5 per person, $10 per family. Activities and demonstrations are available for children ages 5-14.
“The secret to the success of this program is that Safety Day is as fun as it is educational,” said Vickie Davis, RMH Occupational Health clinical patient service representative and Safety Day coordinator. “A lot of children in our area are exposed to farm equipment, and some of them actually operate it. A top priority at RMH is the safety of our community. Children can actually teach their families based on what they learn in this hands-on event.”
Partners include local agricultural businesses, fire departments, rescue squads, civic and service groups, farming experts and hospital staff. Volunteers give their time to provide training on a wide range of farm and home safety topics.
New additions to this year’s lineup include: fishing safety, Sparky’s Hazard House, utilities awareness and farm mishaps.
