Charlottesville: Violent felon brandishes firearm near City Hall annex, no injuries

A Charlottesville man was arrested on Monday after allegedly brandishing a firearm at a city employee on the Downtown Mall. The incident occurred near the City Hall annex, according to the Charlottesville Police Department.

Officers and detectives responded quickly and located the suspect.

Toreke Barbour was arrested, and a firearm was reportedly found on him, according to CPD.

The victim was not injured.

Barbour was charged with:

  • 18.2-308.2 – Convicted violent felon in possession of a firearm
  • 18.2-308.2 – Concealed carry by a convicted felon
  • 18.2-282 – Brandishing a firearm

An online court records search found an extensive list of criminal charges against Barbour dating back to 2019. The charges were in Stafford, Albemarle County and Charlottesville courts. The charges included malicious wounding, assault and battery, cocaine distribution, weapon possession, public swearing and intoxication.

Barbour is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
