Route 340/Route 522 signal at Frederick/Clarke line goes live Nov. 10

The traffic signal on Route 340/522 at Lake Frederick Drive (Route 1434)  will be fully activated on November 10.  The signal was originally installed in 2007 to serve future development in the Lake Frederick area. At that time the signal was placed in a yellow flash mode. This is a T-intersection design, which is located near the Frederick and Clarke county line.

A traffic study conducted by the Virginia Department of Transportation in September and October 2016 showed that the intersection met the criteria for a fully activated traffic signal.

In addition to the signal activation, the traffic pattern will also change.

Route 340/522 northbound will have one left-turn lane. The current dual left-turn will be eliminated. A flashing yellow arrow will allow a permissive left-turn from Route 340/522 onto Lake Frederick Drive.

Route 340/522 southbound will have a flashing yellow arrow allowing a permissive U-Turn onto Route 340/522 northbound.

Lake Frederick Drive will continue to have a single left-turn lane and a single right-turn lane.

Route 340/522 will have a green signal until traffic is detected on Lake Frederick Drive.

VDOT has placed message boards near this intersection, alerting drivers of the upcoming traffic pattern change.
