VDOT studying possible closing of Route 42 crossover in Rockingham County

Chris Graham

road-work-headerThe Virginia Department of Transportation has begun to study whether closing an existing crossover along Route 42 (John Wayland Highway) in Rockingham County would improve safety and traffic flow.

The crossover is about halfway between Route 910 (Garbers Church Road) and the entrance to the Garber’s Crossing shopping center.

The crossover is temporarily closed during the traffic study, which is expected to take about 90 days. Motorists on Route 42 can use the signalized intersection at the shopping center, or the crossover with turn lanes at Route 910. The affected portion of Route 42 carries about 17,000 vehicles a day.

Citizens can comment on the traffic-pattern change by contacting the VDOT Harrisonburg Residency at 540-434-2586, or the VDOT Customer Service Center at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (1-800-367-7623), or online athttps://my.vdot.virginia.gov.
