House and Senate Democratic leaders offered praise for the second State of the Commonwealth address from Gov. Terry McAuliffe.
Said Senator Dick Saslaw (D-Fairfax), Democratic Leader in the Virginia Senate: “We must create and grow a new Virginia economy that keeps the Commonwealth the envy of every other state. Strong and sustainable funding for public education will help keep college affordable and build a Virginia workforce that can compete in a global economy. Governor McAuliffe has laid the foundation for the General Assembly to put the people’s priorities first.”
Said Senator Donald McEachin (D-Henrico), Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus: “I applaud Governor McAuliffe for his commitment and leadership to growing jobs here in Virginia. Our caucus looks forward to partnering with him to support policies that build on our economic momentum, diversify our economy, bring new jobs to the Commonwealth and create a stronger future for Virginia families.”
“Governor McAuliffe gave a terrific and inspiring speech,” said David J. Toscano, House Democratic Leader. “His proposals to grow the New Virginia Economy by diversifying our economy, improving our workforce, and investing in education should garner substantial bipartisan support. And we were pleased that he continues his efforts at making Virginia the friendliest state for veterans, and with his renewed commitment to find a creative way to expand insurance coverage to more Virginians.”
“The Governor has set forth a strong list of priorities for 2016, and I look forward to working in a bipartisan way to make progress for our constituents,” said Democratic Caucus Chair Charniele Herring. “Ensuring every citizen has an equal opportunity to contribute to the New Virginia Economy should be the focus of the 2016 Legislative Session.”
