Rockingham investigators need help ID’g body found April 10
Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office investigators are asking the public for help in identifying a body found off Route 33 on April 10.
The body was found a mile from the West Virginia state line near the entrance to an area known as the Switzer Dam entrance road.
The unidentified body is of a white male, likely between the ages of 18 and 30, height of 5’6″ and likely between 140–150 pounds. The victim was wearing green fatigue-style pants, a navy blue and black “Zero Xposure” brand jacket without a hood, “Diamond Back” black and grey gloves and “ECCO” brand hiking shoes. Read more

The brouhaha that fired up over the weekend concerning reaction in the local blogosphere to my endorsement of Terry McAuliffe for governor might pay some dividends for local Democrats long term. In fact I know it will, based on reactions to a comment that I posted in a thread on the AFP yesterday in response to my most vocal critic. Read more
Deeds statement signals … something
The Creigh Deeds campaign is reading something. That I think is clear with the slight shift in strategy signaled in the closing statement that Deeds delivered in Sunday’s Democratic Party gubernatorial debate in Williamsburg.
“Our party will no longer be the party of the middle class if our nominee for governor is beholden to Donald Trump or Wall Street executives or to tainted defense contractors who have received millions in earmarks from an older brother in Congress. We have lost our way if we allow the Wall Street culture or the corrupt political establishment to dictate our agenda for the next four years,” Deeds said, taking shots at rivals Terry McAuliffe and Brian Moran on campaign contributions. The Staunton Democratic Committee has released a call to unassembled caucus to nominate candidates for Commonwealth’s attorney and city sheriff for Tuesday, May 12.

Presidential Library to host foreign-policy symposium
The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum today announced that it will host the 2010 Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library Symposium on April 14-16, 2010, in Staunton, Virginia. At the symposium, titled “World of Power/World of Law: Wilsonianism and Other Visions of Foreign Policy,” the Presidential Library will convene scholars from around the nation and the world to examine the life, times, and ideas of Woodrow Wilson for two days of panel presentations, dialogue, and debate. The seminar, which is sponsored by the Carnegie Corporation and the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, will be the fifth national symposium the Presidential Library has held since the program’s inception in 2000. Grandstand Managers banquet to feature Cal Ripken Sr. League president
The annual Shenandoah Valley Grandstand Managers’ banquet will be held on Friday, May 8, at the Johnny Appleseed restaurant in New Market. Bob Douglas, president of the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League will be the featured speaker. Lucas Jones, the new manager of the New Market Rebels, will also give a preview of the 2009 squad. Read more

Gas prices holding steady
A gallon of gas is still in the $2 range, but the good news is that prices seem to be holding steady.
“The continued relative stability of gas prices is good news for consumers, as people struggle with the effects of the recession on their pocketbooks,” said Martha M. Meade, manager of public and government affairs at AAA Mid-Atlantic. Read more

Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore play the late Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, Edie, who were the aunt and cousin, respectively, of Jackie Kennedy. They lived in a fancy estate known as Grey Gardens in East Hampton, nowadays the artsy film colony on the far end of Long Island. Read more
