One more round on bike race
The April 26 Waynesboro Omnium bike race will go on as scheduled, but the resolution to the issues raised by Vice Mayor Frank Lucente regarding the downtown event did not come without more in the way of procedural drama.
“I think all the problems have been resolved, and I’m prepared to vote for this bike race, at least this first one, and after that, if that goes through, see if there are any problems with that, and then go with the second race,” Lucente said at City Council’s meeting Wednesday evening, which began technically as the continuation of the March 9 meeting during which the matter of the proposed closing of Main Street to accommodate the bike race first came up. Jeff Fife | An open letter to Valley UNC fans
Most of the Carolina fans around here are trying to figure out who they’d rather play in the second round, Butler or LSU. But as Lee Corso would say, “Not so fast, my friend.” Even though Radford is a 26. and a half-point underdog and a #16 seed has never beaten a #1 seed, the Hustling Highlanders should give the Tar Heels a little more action than they anticipate. Community-college students meet the Wiz
Glenn DuBois was, of all things, booking a vacation on Expedia.com when inspiration struck. “I was quite amazed that I could go to one place to plan a vacation and shop and compare prices and shop hotels and create an account and plan an itinerary and pay for it. I was with one of my vice chancellors, and I said, Couldn’t we do something like that in higher education?” said DuBois, the chancellor of the Virginia Community College System, detailing the first step toward the rollout of the Virgina Education Wizard, a one-stop online career-planning resource for current and prospective community-college students in Virginia. Report: UVa. fires Dave Leitao
A report on CBSSports.com this afternoon has Virginia firing men’s basketball coach Dave Leitao.
According to the report, the move was initiated with the goal in mind of making a run at Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel.
Capel, a Duke alum, was a candidate for the job four years ago while he was the head coach at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Leitao’s teams at Virginia went 63-60 in his four years in Charlottesville, highlighted by a 21-11 record and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2006-2007 that saw Leitao voted the ACC coach of the year.
