policeAn Appomattox man is dead from injuries in a single-vehicle crash in Prince Edward County early Saturday morning.

Alexander W. Lloyd, 24, was transported to Southside Community Hospital with life-threatening injuries from the 12:57 a.m. crash. He succumbed to those injuries later that morning. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Lloyd was a passenger in a 2001 Ford Mustang southbound on Route 15 near Route 133 when the driver, whose name has not been released, lost control of the vehicle, causing the car to run off the right side of the road, strike a sign and several trees, then overturn.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Charges are expected. The crash remains under investigation.
