Attorney General-elect Mark Herring announces senior staff

Attorney General-elect Mark Herring today announced the appointment of two more senior officials in the Office of Attorney General. Herring will be sworn in as Virginia’s 48th Attorney General on Jan. 11. Stuart Raphael, currently a partner with the Litigation Team of Hunton & Williams LLP, will serve as Virginia’s Solicitor General.
#10 UNC women’s basketball defeats JMU, 74-71

JMU women’s basketball game-tying attempt misfired as time expired in Chapel Hill, N.C., allowing No. 10/11 North Carolina to escape with a 74-71 win at Carmichael Arena Thursday afternoon. The Dukes finished the non-conference slate with a 10-4 record while the Tar Heels improved to 12-2 before the start of the Atlantic Coast Conference season.
SMAC sets new team records at Pittsburgh Christmas meet

The Waynesboro YMCA year-round competitive swim team, SMAC, (Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club) competed at the 52nd annual Pittsburgh Christmas Meet Dec. 13-15. Over 1,500 swimmers attended this very competitive swim meet from teams all across the Mid-Atlantic states. To enter the meet a swimmer needed to have an A time in the event they planned to swim.

Senior guard Kirby Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) scored 22 points and snagged five rebounds to lead the James Madison women’s basketball team to a 94-50 win over Norfolk State in the championship game of the JMU Invitational presented by Fairfield Inn at the JMU Convocation Center Monday afternoon.

James Madison senior guard Kirby Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week Monday afternoon. It is the third time this season Burkholder has collected the honor and the fifth time a JMU player has been recognized.
