Sen. Hanger to be honored at brain injury conference

Chris Nowinski, whose career as a professional wrestler ended after repeated concussions, will discuss his efforts to alert parents and health care providers to the dangers of sports concussions in children as Commonwealth agencies and community partners come together July 26 for “Brain Injury Report Out Day.”

Robins Center video boards to be among largest in the nation

The University of Richmond’s Athletic Department has announced that Panasonic will provide new video boards as part of the current $17 million Robins Center renovation project. Once installed, the displays will be the largest of any Atlantic 10 arena and will also be one of the largest displays of any on-campus arena in the ACC or Big East.

Ricketts among three judges appointed by McDonnell

Gov. Bob McDonnell today announced three judicial appointments to fill vacant circuit court positions that were not filled during the 2013 General Assembly session. Robert R. Sandwich, Jr., will fill the 5th Judicial Circuit, Stephen E. Sincavage will serve in the 20th Judicial Circuit, and Charles L. Ricketts, III, will serve in the 25th Judicial Circuit.

Planning for the third annual Hope for Homes benefit is underway for the Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Habitat for Humanity. The date for the 2014 Gala has been set for January 25, 2014 and will be held in the Shenandoah Ballroom of the Stonewall Jackson Hotel in Staunton. The benefit will join community leaders, benefactors, sponsors and philanthropists in an evening to raise funds and awareness of the local Habitat for Humanity program.
