A sociology professor at Bridgewater College has published the first comprehensive book that examines the thirst for culture and knowledge in the African nation of Zambia. Mwizenge S. Tembo was born in Chipata and grew up near Nkhanga Village in Lundazi, which is in the Eastern Province of Zambia in Southern Africa. He has taught at Bridgewater for more than two decades and spent three years researching and writing Satisfying Zambian Hunger for Culture, which contains a foreword by Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s first president.

Holly Rilinger is a Waynesboro native and former state basketball player of the year at Waynesboro High School before going on to star at James Madison University and the WNBA. The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia sent a letter to the State Board of Elections last week calling for action to ensure all eligible voters are able to vote in the upcoming elections and are informed about the new law requiring identification at the polls.

The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of October, is exhibiting the second Member’s Judged Show of 2012. Members of the art center compete for awards ranging from Best in Show to honorable mentions. This year’s judge is Michael Hough, Associate Professor of Art at Bridgewater College with a Master of Fine Art from Rhode Island School of Design.

Eastern Mennonite University has announced the hiring of Gary Moore as its next head men’s volleyball coach. Moore becomes the seventh head mentor of the men’s program, which was started in 1991.
